The 21st century – is an epoch of young and dedicated people who possess skills in many areas including diplomacy, public negotiation, leadership, speechmaking, creativity, conflict resolution and analytical thinking. And now, college and university students, young researchers and all people who are interested in International Relations (IR), globalization, Global Citizenship and the work of the UN have a great opportunity to acquire these skills and to try on the role of diplomats and UN delegates through participation in the Model United Nations-New Silk Way conference.

On October 20, 2018, the MUN NSW team organized a regional mini-conference at Al Farabi Kazakh National University. The student activists debated some burning questions as delegates, diplomats and statesmen. Thus, at the “UN General Assembly” session the delegates discussed issues of Cyber Security. At the “UN Security Council” session, they talked about global and regional trends in migration of the population. It is worse mentioning that Model UN participants should not express their own opinion during debates; they should research representing a specific country’s position and interests. And this can be reached through a thorough research on a country’s attitude towards the issue to be discussed.

At the short but meaningful the MUN NSW conference, the participants not only develop their IR skills, but also met people from different countries, share experiences and broaden horizons of practical application of their knowledges and career prospects. Moreover, the MUN NSW enables the participants to have a chance to visit the near and far abroad in the framework of the project.

The MUN NSW is supported by diplomatic communities, ministries, governmental and non-governmental organizations; and therefore the participants have a unique opportunity to meet representatives of ministries and NGOs, high-ranking diplomats, who represent diplomatic missions from different counties including USA, Russia and Germany. One of the participants said: “the MUN NSW is an awareness-rising and capacity building for student community that gives students almost unlimited possibilities to create a better world for all of us.”
